spudbuds
Spudbuds tackles the 2.6 million potatoes wasted daily in Canada,
along with nearly half of hospital linens, most of which end up in
landfills emitting methane. We addressed both issues by turning
potato waste into soft, durable hospital bedding and children’s
stuffed animals, using potato fibers that require 99.7% less water
than cotton. These textiles can be turned into virtually anything from hospital gowns to bedding, and even children's stuffed animals.
Illustrations were designed for three distinct themes including garden
alongside a bunny, forest with a bear, and farm with a sheep. Each
theme has a series of designs you would see in that environment
alongside an animal pal. We thoroughly researched the newly discovered process of turning
potato fibres into textiles, and made illustrations to demonstrate
the step-by-step process of converting food waste into textiles.
